Mudjira Village Eatery was established in 2015 in the heart of Mudgeeraba, Gold Coast. Mudjira is the indigenous name for Mudgeeraba and means a place of many stories. The name was chosen to honour and acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, the Yugambeh people.

After visiting your favourite cafe, you can stretch your legs into the little park The Village Green. It is a well-maintained place with a relevant sculpture by the artist Arno Schilling.

The sculpture is dedicated to the early settlers of the Mudgeeraba region who worked in the logging industry. The early pioneers used to cut giant trees of the area with axes and crosscut saws.

The 1840s were the times of the beginning of the timber industry and by the 1860s, Mudgeeraba was a permanent settlement.

Many sawmills were established at the time. Back then it was common for timber to be floated downstream or transported by bullock teams.

In 1924, the owners of Neranwood Mill decided to build a unique and private tram line to transport the timber. Two small locomotives, named Kathleen and Alison, pulled carriages full of sawn timber along two foot gauge line.
