Soar with the champions or marvel from solid ground
Winter may be closing in, however, don't let that force you indoors. There are still many reasons to celebrate time spent outdoors and Mudgee is hosting one such event this year: The Hot Air Ballooning Festival. This includes the Hot Air Ballooning Championships, five days of national level flying competition held from the 27th of May until May 31st, with the best of the best ballooning pilots competing. Before the official championships start there will be two events to ignite the ballooning spirit. On May 25th, Glen Willow Stadium will host Mudgee Night Glow. Then, on May 26th, there will be a Balloons & Bubbles Breakfast at Blue Wren Wines.
For those who are keen to get amongst the action, or simply to experience a truly unique scenic flight, there will be Festival Flights from May 26th - May 31st. These balloon flights will have you flying high with the champions, following them as they complete their competition tasks. Pilots will provide commentary on the competition as you trail the champs. Post-flight balloon goers are invited to indulge in a buffet breakfast (is there any better kind?) at Blue Wren Wines. Guests can also enjoy a sparkling wine tasting if they wish. Tickets start at $299 per adult for the flight and buffet and there are limited spaces for the competition dates, so book as soon as possible. For those wanting to release hot air and relay flight stories to their friends and family, there are guest tickets for the post-flight buffet breakfast starting at $30 each.
For those content to keep their feet grounded, you can spectate for free on solid ground. Watch as pilots participate in a series of competitions, riding the winds currents. Events will be early morning and late afternoon.
