Their location on charming Oxford Street in Bulimba lends greatly to the laid-back vibe of the many cafes, restaurants and bars that line the street. On a wintery Wednesday evening, was my chosen destination. From classics with a twist to exotic treats like Mars Bar and Tonka Bean Brulee, Mud Bar offer a range of desserts guaranteed to satiate even the sweetest tooth. If that's not your thing they also boast a killer breakfast menu and a Tapas selection.

Always a chocolate fiend, I ordered the Crackle Chocolate Tart, a rich, gooey Belgian chocolate cake topped with a lattice of toffee and Tonka Bean ice cream. My fellow diner had the Crumble, a mix of apple, rhubarb and banana with anglaise, rhubarb syrup and blueberry and sweet balsamic ice cream. Our curiosity as to what exactly sweet balsamic ice cream would taste like was the big seller on that one. Both the dishes were tasty, however the price tag of $16 a piece did make me gulp.

Mud Bar is open every day until late, opening at 5pm on Mondays and Tuesdays, 12pm Wednesdays to Fridays and from 7am on weekends. Make a reservation if you want to make a post-dinner visit as trade starts to pick up around 8pm.
