A short drive up the freeway from Adelaide is the Mt Lofty Botanical Gardens, one of the three botanic gardens in Adelaide.

Visitors to the park can expect breathtaking scenes all year round, but spring and autumn are the most spectacular.

The golden colours of autumn set the 100 acres of garden space alive with the gold, yellow, red and orange of the season.

Alternatively, spring in Rhododendron Gully is simply stunning. The walking trail through the gully is definitely worth a visit, your camera will go into overload on the the bursting colours that completely surround you.

There are other areas of interest for visiting: the BankSA Nature Trail, the ATCO Heritage Rose Garden, the lake and the Wollemi Pine section.

Toilets are located at each carpark area. At these spots, there are self-guided tour booklets and maps available as well. There are no cafe or dining facilities in the Mt Lofty Botanical Gardens, but it's a perfect spot for a picnic!

Keep a look out for the wildlife that live in the gardens too, but visitors are asked to not feed them.

Entry to the Botanical Gardens is free (a small carparking fee does apply though, so be sure to bring change for the machine).

The gardens are open every day of the year, except for days when the predicted fire danger rating is severe, extreme or catastrophic.
