If you have read some of the reviews about this restaurant you know it has a lot of bad press. Poor service, poor food, bad decor. But do you believe in second chances? How about third?
We have been here a few times ourselves. And yes, we have experienced some of the above.
In their favour, they lead you from the parking lot through a vine covered arbour along a ginger lined walkway to the restaurant with the most stunning views.
Because we have been captivated by the views, we once again thought we would give it a go. Being a rainy, cloudy day however, the views were scattered and by the time we arrived the rain had soaked everything rendering the deck closed.
Despite the weather, we were delighted by the friendly service that came with laughter and pleasant conversation. We have never really had any problems with their food.
Never having been inside before, the decor was indeed surprising. The old dated interior is in need of a face lift and we met it with scepticism. Nothing much seemed to have changed inside from the restaurant's early days as a dairy farmhouse. However we weren't going to order chairs and tables to eat so we carried on.
The large bowls of soup we ordered from the daily specials came steaming hot, a perfect way to warm up a cool day. The Thai Pumpkin and the Italian Courgette (zucchini) soups came with toasted bread. They were lovely, flavourful, creamy and made from fresh ingredients. The Thai was spiced lightly but deliciously. With room for dessert, we decided to share a piece of cheesecake.
The Vanilla Cheese cake was luscious, light and again, nicely creamy. The presentation was a piece of art with an orange nasturtium and slice of green kiwi. All was reasonably priced and the house red was a nice Shiraz combo, light on the palette.
Winding roads with views spotted through the trees and your ascent up the mountain makes for an enjoyable drive all by itself. The Mt. Glorious Restaurant can be your destination. You can call the restaurant to make a reservation at 07 3289 0145. They don't presently have a website.
There are all kinds of hidden gems up here including Graham Radcliffe's Phoenix Sculpture Garden, look for it on Fahey Road near the restaurant. With lookouts along the drive, the scenic views and lovely greenery of the forest we decided that yes, we would go back again for a 4th time. It was a good experience from the laughter to the good service to the delectable meal. And maybe next time we will get a view if it's not cloudy.
Oh by the way, the restaurant is for sale. Cheap.
