Just 45 minutes north west of Brisbane is the D'Aguilar Range, home to Mount Glorious and Mt Nebo. Living in the northern suburbs makes this region easily accessible via Samford. A picturesque road with twisting turns and hairpin bends takes you through magnificent rainforest delivering you to the summit, the destination of our trip last week.

At the summit of Mount Glorious we were disappointed not to find a lookout point immediately so we opted for lunch before heading out to explore again. The summit offers a few venues for lunch. We narrowed it down to a choice between the Maiala Teahouse and Restaurant (offering all day breakfasts) and the Mt Glorious Cafe and Restaurant. The former was very busy with scores of motorcyclists, so we ended up at the Mt Glorious Cafe and Restaurant and we were unexpectedly rewarded with a restaurant with majestic views.

Situated on the edge of the mountain, this restaurant provides unsurpassed views down to the Samford Valley and stretching across to Moreton Bay. The dining deck is very inviting but make sure you book in advance to guarantee a table. We were ushered to a table inside which is furnished very comfortably and looks like a very cosy place to be on a cold day. Service here is very friendly but slow, however a chalkboard on the wall informed us that the food is prepared on the premises using local ingredients and to please be patient during busy times as "good food takes time". After a significant wait, our Wagyu burgers arrived. They were very generously sized and delicious. Most definitely worth the wait. Presentation was lovely with fresh edible flowers adding a decorative touch to the plate. For dessert, we managed to fit in a sticky date pudding served with a caramel sauce and a very delicate lemon tart.

After lunch, we followed the road towards Mt Nebo which offers several lookouts and vantage points to enjoy the view. Westridge Lookout offers sweeping views to the valley below and out to Wivenhoe Dam.

Further down, we stopped at Camp Mountain Lookout which was the camp site for original gold miners in the area. A recent addition to this lookout area is Bathersby lookout which was opened in February 2012. The views from here extend over the city skyline and on a clear day you can see the sands of Moreton Island.

We will definitely be visiting Mt Glorious again in the not too distant future but next time, we intend to pack our hiking boots and explore some of the 20kms of walking tracks throughout the D'Aguilar Range National Park. And we'll be back for another Wagyu burger too.
