The Mt Evelyn Street Party at Wray Crescent, Mt Evelyn on Sunday 29 October 2017 from 10am to 3pm is going to be a blast from the past. Creating lasting memories whilst remembering days of old is on the agenda at this event hosted by the Mt Evelyn Township Group. The main shopping strip will be closed to traffic to make way for partying at this biennial 1950 reminiscing event. Imagine yourself in the 1950's, how would it have looked? What would you hear and what would you smell? Come and find out.
One of Melbourne's best-kept secrets, this beautiful and vibrant township celebrates the 1950s in a way you've never seen before. There'll be rock n' roll dance demos and workshops, a buskers stage, musos and roving performers, fashion contests, classic cars and school children on stage. There's memorabilia, the Mt Evelyn Pin-Up Competition where pin-up kings and queens will compete for the titles of Mr and Miss Mt Evelyn, and free activities for children. Winners of the Historical Writing, Colouring In and Bicycle Decorating competitions will be announced, with entries on display for all to see and read.
The Street Parade starts at 10am and roving performers and people in 50s outfits will keep up the energy all day long. Hula Hoop artist Miss Malis Walsh features ad Nick Prelorenzo will grace the stage with his incredible tenor voice before rock'n'roll bands get everyone in the mood to dance. Free and low cost activities abound, including trackless train rides and an animal petting farm. Pony rides, face painting, meeting local community groups, and many other activities along with market and food stalls and local cafes celebrating alongside will keep you going all day long.
