Mt Coot-tha Lookout – The Forgotten First Date
I'm sure one day in decades past
Mt Coot-tha Lookout was where young men took their ladies during to wine, dine and win their hearts. Nowadays however it is more of a tourist destination, where travellers come to take in the beautiful view of the Brissy skyline. However after spending the evening here with my man, watching the sun go down and lights come on, I'm convinced that the romantic vibes are well worth a trip for you and your partner.
A quick Google search proclaimed that sunset was at 5:42, and we arrived 15mins early to find our spot and indulge in an old fashioned scoop of ice cream. However the chilly breeze changed our minds and we both grabbed a yummy hot chocolate to warm our hands, and our tummies from
Kuta Café , which we both agreed were rather delicious. We took our beverages down the stairs, through a randomly placed gate and sat on the edge of the lawn. We were just far enough away from the tourists that we could snuggle comfortable and privately. I think that if people knew you could sneak down there for secretive kisses, more couples might give this trip a go.
We sipped our drinks and watched as the lights slowly started turning on across the landscape. One of the nicest things about seeing the view of your own city is that you know exactly what you are looking at. We could spot Suncorp Stadium and the XXXX brewery over in Milton, the Wheel of Brisbane stood out against Southbank and the Gateway was dappled in a gorgeous pink light for Brisbane Festival. We were even able to look down at the traffic and decide which way we were going to head home. Maybe this part isn't romantic, but it sure was interesting.
One of the nicest things about this date idea is that it is suitable for all couples with a range of budgets. Those of us blessed with a bit more cash in our pockets can enjoy the
Romantic Couples banquet at the Summit restaurant or for a little less can spoil themselves with the
Sunset Dinner Package on offer. You can also choose to celebrate your love over spare-change hot chocolates or some other yummy snack from Kuta Café. If however you are looking to save your cash you can have a romantic evening spread out on blankets, simply snuggling until the stars come out.
Whatever way you choose to take in the view you will enjoy watching the sky go from light blue to black in a matter of minutes, with your arms around the one you love. Lets bring that old romance back.
