Don't blame it on sunshine, don't blame it on moonlight, just get ready to boogie on down to South Bank Parklands on Friday 19 October to take part in Brisbane's annual Moonlight Walk. You'll be helping to raise $300,000 for people living with multiple sclerosis (MS) – a debilitating disease that affects the body's central nervous system. Sadly, there are over 23,000 Australians living with this disease, and alarmingly the average age of diagnosis is as young as 30.

Beginning at sunset, walkers will wind their way around the Kangaroo Point cliffs, over the Story Bridge and Goodwill Bridge and through the Botanical Gardens, returning to the Parklands under the illumination of a full moon. There is the option of a 5km or 10km circuit depending on your fitness level.

You can either register online or on the day, however there are early bird discounts available. Entry costs $25 for children aged 6 to 17 years, $30 for adults and $70 per family (two adults, two children). Children aged under 5 are free. Register before Friday 12 October and you'll save $5.

At the event, registrations will open from 4.30pm and the walk kicks off at 6pm. There'll be entertainment back at base from 7pm, guest appearances and prizes awarded from 8.15pm, and the evening will finish up around 9pm. Food and drink will also be available for purchase.

South Bank Parklands are centrally located close to public transport so you can either jump on the City Cat or catch a bus to the nearby Cultural Centre. There are plenty of parking options too but parking fees may apply and it's always difficult to predict how many people will decide to drive to these events.

Why not post details of the Moonlight Walk on Facebook so your friends, family and work colleagues can get involved too, you can even start a team. How about theming your team and rocking some fancy dress? Visit the website to check out course maps, information about registering a team, and to enter online.

While many of us take for granted the simple pleasures in life, like enjoying a stroll around the Brisbane River, spare a thought for people living with MS who may not even have that luxury. While there is no known cure for this disease, together we can help raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society so it can continue to provide valuable support to people living with MS and hopefully make their lives that little bit easier.
