Whether you're a runner, a cycler, a jogger or a walker, even casually, just moving one foot in front of the other, the MS Melbourne Cycle & Half Marathon at the Flemington Racecourse, 448 Epsom Road, Flemington on Sunday 15 April 2018 is the event for you. Participation is the key at this fundraiser which raises essential dollars for people living with multiple sclerosis. Your entry fee doesn't only garner you a coveted ticket to ride the sights of Melbourne or run the racecourse; you also get a whole bunch of keepsakes, free event pics, entertainment and more.
With a run component being introduced this year, it encompasses the run community to help raise awareness for MS. So, be it enjoying the wind in your face as you run, jog or walk, or take on a challenge with riding the 30km and 50km courses, you're ON!
Entry fees for the event pay for the cost of staging the event, hence you're encouraged to have a go at fundraising to support those with MS. Entry prices range from $10 (child 16 and under for 3-6km ride) to $85 and close on 4 April, so please check the website for all entry prices. People living with MS will receive complimentary entry, but you need to contact the team on 1300 733 690 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
There's a lot of support online with ideas and resources available to help make your fundraising a breeze. It is expected that every participant will fundraise a minimum of $150 to provide support and services to the 23,000 Aussies living with MS. Entry fees merely covers operational costs of putting the event together, and your fundraising is the dollar that drives the support in making a significant difference for these Aussies living with challenging issues every day.
You can download the PDF file of the Event Guide for more details of the event, ideas and inspiration, the cycle and half marathon course and more.
The course starts and finishes in the grounds of the Flemington Racecourse and runners will enjoy running through the fabled Flemington rose gardens and the Melbourne Showgrounds. Looking for more of challenge? Then the 30 and 50 km courses will take your breath away with a trek over the West Gate Bridge and around the unknown sights of inner Melbourne. Choose your event and find out ride or run start times according to which course you choose.
It's not just the runners and cyclists that get to enjoy the exhilaration of paying it forward and helping those in need, but cheering family and friends will be entertained aplenty with lots of activities for everyone to enjoy, including live music, roving entertainment, jumping castle, face painting and more. Check out the event info for more details.
For the families that want to get involved and instil the nature of charity in their little ones, riding over the Westgate is not necessarily suitable and not the only option. The family ride is made up of two shorter courses of 3km or 6km, your choice, and is a closed course in Flemington Racecourse. Both are off road, making it safer and perfect for kids, families and less experienced riders.
Check the website thoroughly as there's masses of information to cover any question you may have, including how to prep for the event, training tips and bike hire if you need one, and more.
