A sleek and stylish wine bar at the north end of Lygon Street, East Brunswick, Mr. Wilkinson will entice you in with warm lighting, an impressive drinks menu, and most importantly, a cosy atmosphere. It is an ultra-nice chill space to unwind after a hard day's work and stands out as being one of a kind for this end of Lygon Street. The staff are friendly and know their stuff and are helpful with recommendations if you're overwhelmed for choice.
The décor is a cross between the oldschool with recycled timbers, and the futuristic, with interesting local artworks on display, making the aesthetic very pleasing to the eye. Out the back offers a courtyard where you can have a smoke and a drink, and is sheltered from the rain and lit up with fairy lights, making this space quite difficult to leave!
There's music gently filtering through the speakers in every corner, sourced from a computer at the bar, but I reckon this place would definitely benefit from a couple of turntables spinning some vinyl grooves. This would add warmth and ambience to the comforting Mr. W. vibe.
Light snacks are on offer, such as yummy dips with pitta bread, but if you're after something more substantial the staff will order you a pizza from La Bussola, an authentico Italiano bistro up the road. Yum! Or there is the funky Taco Truck that rocks up some time after 7pm parked on the street. Supporting the locals!
