The atmosphere and style is unlike previous music programs I have participated in. The teachers are mostly younger, and present a relaxed and informal lesson plan that caters to the student's own style. That is, a student is able to bring in their own song they wish to learn, and the lesson will be organised around it. Through doing this, the student is able to learn complex techniques, or a more simple approach can be taken if they need.
I think this is an interesting approach, as I know of many people who want to learn to play a few songs, but are too worried about the technical aspects of music tutorship (such as scales and theory) to actively pursue lessons.
This is where Mr. Music is different, as it's possible to develop a learning pattern that suits the student's own desires, experience and goals. Due to this welcoming style, these lessons are suitable for students of any age or musical background.
A con is that there isn't a great deal of parking, at least at the Ferntree Gully venue. As the school is located above another business, the location is not ideal, however the school does have quality facilities, and they have recently taken steps to improve on these further, including comfy couches in the waiting area, and the teacher's access to tabs and songs to keep up to date on options for the students. This being said, it does not detract from the quality of the teaching, and the prices themselves are very reasonable (between $28-$38) per lesson.
There are also concerts held by and for the students, which I found to be very enjoyable.
