Recently opened at Mawson Lakes, Mr Bulgogi offers a wide range of Korean cuisine that is very popular with the locals, particularly during dinner time. The staffs were notable for being Korean and the dishes tasted authentic. Located at 32 Metro Parade, just 3 minute walk from Mawson Lakes Railway Station and Bus Interchange, Mr Bulgogi is an ideal place to stop by and have a bite before you head home, take your dinner or buy takeaway for dinner.

Due to the large variety of dishes that we wanted to try, we ended up visiting the restaurant three times in a couple of weeks. Their Bulgogi Bibimbab is done in the "claypot" style with the dish served in a hot stone bowl. This version of Bibimbab is called Dolsot (stone bowl) Bibimbab. Bibimbab is a bowl of white rice topped with a mix of colourful vegetables, beef and egg. It is eaten by pouring gochujang (Korean chilli paste) over the ingredients and stirring everything together thoroughly. Compared to the Bibimbab we ate at Mandoo , the rice had a softer texture with the grilled beef, egg and vegetables complementing it well. As expected from a dish similar to Claypot Rice , it had a lovely crust at the bottom of the stone bowl with the chilli paste heightening the flavour of the dish.

The Spicy Pork & Squid is one of various stir-fried dishes that come with steamed rice making it a good choice for someone eating alone. Both the pork and squid were cooked just right with the sauce bringing out their flavour but be warned that the dish can be a bit too spicy for those not used to spicy foods.

A favourite of my sister from her exchange trip in South Korea, Korean Fried Chicken is a popular dish that is taken together with Korean beer. Three versions of the dish are available – Original, Sweet & Spicy and Soy Sauce. It can be ordered as either a half chicken or boneless chicken thighs and is served with salad and pickled vegetables. The chicken was fried to golden brown with the crisp coating being a good contrast to the tender meat. The accompanying potato wedges and fried rice cakes are good partners to the chicken. Our favourite version was the one with sweet and spicy sauce though the other two versions were delicious as well.

For those who want something lighter, Mr Bulgogi also serves a selection of light meals. Their Seafood Pancake is perhaps the most filling of those dishes, with the serving size generous enough to be shared with friends. The pancake was fried to golden brown with seafood and vegetables giving the dish its distinct texture. The dish came served with a dipping sauce that the pancake can be dipped in to enhance its flavour.

Tteobboki is a popular Korean dish made from soft rice cake, fish cake and sweet red chilli sauce. The Tteobboki served at Mr Bulgogi is similar to the Dak–Bokkeum served at Ga Bin Korean Restaurant , but with more sauce and fish cakes taking the place of the chicken. Both the rice sticks and fish cakes were cooked to perfection with the sauce complementing the ingredients well without overwhelming them. We also tried their Fried Pork Dumplings, which had a juicy filling encased in a crisp skin and is served with the same dipping sauce as the Seafood Pancake.

As far as we know, Mr Bulgogi is the only Korean restaurant in Mawson Lakes and they offer a good range of Korean drinks as accompaniment for your food. The restaurant also offers lunch specials until 3pm on weekdays. We bought a couple of takeaways and were very impressed with the presentation of their takeaway boxes. There were separate compartments for the rice and various ingredients and looked really pretty. The restaurant is located opposite a big car park which makes for really easy parking. Ambience of the restaurant is casual and cosy.
