MPavilion is back for 2020, and features 500 Australian and international guests providing 400 free events.

While normally a key feature of MPavilion is to build a new structure as a hub for its events, the approach this year will be a little different. In a move aimed at supporting local designers and artists, MPavilion will this year re-use the six structures that have been designed and built over the past six years the event has been running.

Running until 5th April 2021, while November's program is entirely online, from December onwards, events will be both online and in many physical locations.

The program features many highlights.

Walsh Street Music (27th November - 1st January) is heritage house-visit with a difference. MPavilion and the Robin Boyd Foundation present a six-part series of live performances from the iconic Walsh Street house — the dwelling Boyd designed as his own family home. Directed by filmmaker Freya Esders and shot by cinematographer Edward Goldner, the series will feature Melbourne's favourite musicians in all corners of Boyd's architectural masterpiece. The series features performances by Kee'ahn, Baby T, Sweet Whirl, Mindy Meng Weng, Gregor, and Sleeper & Snake.

Spanish architect and writer Andrés Jaque (30th November) presents Intimacy and Distance . On a single day this year, Tinder users swiped 3 billion times globally, the most the dating app has ever recorded. While cities across the world were imposing open-ended lockdowns and strict social distancing measures in response to the spread of COVID-19, people were turning en masse to virtual forms of connection. As the founder of the New York/Madrid-based Office for Political Innovation, Andrés Jaque's work explores architecture as the 'trans-scalar' entanglement of life, bodies, technologies, and environments.

London studio Bompas & Parr (1st February) is globally recognised as the leading expert in multi-sensory experience design, achieving international prominence in the realms of food and drink. For this event, Bompas & Parr will create an inflatable work, where every design decision is 'calibrated to provoke a sense of happiness'.

Artist Atong Atem with Sabina McKenna (1st March) present Hair Salon . MPavilion cuts loose on a curly question: What does your hair mean to you? 'Hair Salon Installation' will see MPavilion Docklands temporarily transformed into a real-life hair salon - and the site of conversations, performances, workshops, and hair-styling sessions that run a fine-tooth comb over the role of hair in shaping our identities, genders, images, perceptions, and rituals.

This is only a small sample of the events on offer at , which will also include morning yoga sessions, DJ classes, and music performances from local artists. Full details of the January to April program will be released soon, so please sign up to the MPavilion newsletter to get the details straight to your inbox. You'll find more information here .
