Sydney is no stranger to an outdoor cinema. We've had movies in parks, movies by the boulevard, movies in amphitheatres, movies on outdoor beds, movies by the beach and movies in front of Sydney Harbour.
Come December, the alfresco cinematic experience is going up a notch thanks to Mov'in Bed transforming into Mov'in Boat. This floating cinema in Darling Harbour brings fun whilst practising social distancing in water vessels.
There's a few choices in which you can lap up the views and the movies, as follows -
Jump in a rowboat with comfy tailored back seats ($119.90 for up to 4 people or just you and your date) and, if you arrive early, you can have a paddle around Darling Harbour prior to the movie
Lie back in a plush summer day bed on the floating pontoon ($99.90 for 2 people or $109.90 for 3 people) with a bedside table
Go full luxury in the Aquaelit Star VIP area ($149.90 for 2 people or $169.90 for 3 people) and you'll get a private table, a queen-sized day bed, umbrellas, butler service, complimentary soft drinks, popcorn, access to an exclusive bar, and a further option to order a fine dining spread from one of The Star's top restaurants (perhaps Sokyo for sushi, Black Bar & Grill for a juicy steak or Flying Fish to add to the watery theme)
Bring your own dinghy or yacht (just $30 per boat for a 4hr mooring) to the park and watch area
Food is available (even if you're not in the VIP area) from nearby markets and eateries providing everything from buckets of prawns to pizza and Nutella waffles. Two floating bars will serve up frozen cocktails, wines, beers and soft drinks to wash it all down. Best of all, it will be zoomed over to your boat or the pontoon via jet ski.
The mega high-definition 4K, 15-metre screen with 30 surround-sound speakers will see screenings of both classics and new blockbusters that include The Meg, Dirty Dancing, Lion, Tenet, Parasite, Jojo Rabbit, The Broken Hearts Gallery, Free Willy, Interstellar, Tomb Raider, The Notebook, Elf, The Matrix, and many others. There's something for all tastes, with more to be released in coming months.
Just a few of the many movies to be seen at this floating cinema
This mov'in experience runs Tues-Sun with 1 movie each night, beginning at 8.30pm. Tickets can be purchased online, just click on your choice of movie (note the date) and choose one of the four options mentioned above.
