Although it will still be school holidays during January, there will still be movie theatres that cater for adults and have some excellent movies on during this month.

[b] 1. EIGHTH GRADE[/b]
Elsie Fisher is a new actress and in this comedy, she makes her way through the last week of a disastrous eighth-grade year. This movie was made in the USA, will be released on 3rd January 2019 and stars Elsie Fisher, Josh Hamilton, Emily Robinson, and Missy Yager.



[b]2. HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD[/b]
This movie will also be released in 3-D. The arrival of a female Night Fury turns Hiccup and his dragon Toothless's lives upside down. This is the third movie in the franchise based on Cressida Cowell's novels.

This movie was made in the USA, is classed as action, animated and fantasy and will be released on 3rd January. It stars Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, Gerard Butler, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, and T.J. Miller.



[b]3. THE POSSESSION OF HANNAH GRACE[/b]
This is a horror film made by the director of Daylight. An ex-policeman becomes possessed by a demonic force lurking within a corpse while working at a morgue. Made in the USA, this will be released on 3rd January. It stars Shay Mitchell, Stana Katic, Grey Damon, Louis Herthum, Kirby Johnson, Nick Thune, Maximillian McNamara, and Jacob Ming-Trent.



[b]4. TURTLE ODYSSEY 3D[/b]
This is an IMAX documentary on the unique lifecycle and open ocean journey of an Australian green sea turtle named Bunji. It is narrated by Russell Crowe and was made in Australia. It is only a short movie playing for some 45 minutes, however, looks like it is a charming story. It will be released on 3rd January.



[b]5. INSTANT FAMILY[/b]
Rose Byrne and Mark Wahlberg adopt three children and find they are out of their depth in this comedy. The couple originally hoped to take in only one young child but when they meet three siblings, they find themselves going from no children to three overnight.

This will be released on 10th January, is made in the USA, and stars Mark Wahlberg, Rose Byrne, Isabela Moner, Octavia Spencer, Eve Harlow, and Julie Hagerty.



[b]6. PICK OF THE LITTER[/b]
This is a documentary about five labrador puppies who are training to become guide dogs for the blind. It spans two years of their training and starts when the puppies are just eight weeks old. Also starring two people with low vision who are waiting for a new dog, this movie demonstrates that special bond between man and his dog.

It is made in the USA and will be released on 10th January.


[b]7. THE HATE U GIVE[/b]
Starr Carter witnesses the fatal shooting of her friend by police in this drama based on Angie Thomas's novel. Having been raised in a poverty-stricken slum, 16-year-old Starr goes to a prep school. After she witnesses a policeman shoot her unarmed best friend, she becomes very confused as she attempts to speak her truth.

This is a drama made in the USA, and it will be released on 10th January. It stars Amandla Stenberg, Lamar Johnson, Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, and Anthony Mackie.


[b]8. FREE SOLO[/b]
The filmmakers of Meru follow Alex Honnold as he becomes the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's 3000-foot-high El Capitan Wall. The film follows Honnold over two years as he tests the limits of his abilities.

This is a sports documentary made in the USA and it will be released on 24th January.



[b]9. GREEN BOOK[/b]
This is a comedy-drama with Viggo Mortensen as an Italian-American bouncer from the Bronx. He is hired to drive a world-class concert pianist on a tour across the 1960's American South. They encounter racism and danger along the way, and they must set aside their differences all the while relying on 'The Green Book' to guide them to the few places that were safe for African-Americans.

This is made in the USA and will be released on 24th January. It stars Viggo Mortensen, Mahershala Ali, Linda Cardellini, Don Stark, Sebastian Maniscalco, Tom Virtue, and Brian Stepanek.



[b]10. BEN IS BACK[/b]
This is a domestic drama written by Oscar nominee Peter Hedges. It is about a charming but troubled Ben Burns who returns home to his unsuspecting family one fateful Christmas Eve. Ben's mother is pleased to have him home, but soon learns he is still very much in harm's way. She must now prevent the family's downfall during the next 24 hours.

This is a drama made in the USA and it will be released on 31st January. It stars Julia Roberts, Lucas Hedges, Kathryn Newton, Courtney B. Vance, Alexandra Park, and Marquise Vilson.
