Sydney's best free outdoor cinema series under the stars is back for another season on the lawn of Cathy Freeman Park, within the precinct of Sydney Olympic Park. Movies by the Boulevard sees a host of popular blockbusters in the program line-up this year as well as a special extended Australia Day program of entertainment.
Movie favourites across a range of genres include Despicable Me, The LEGO Batman Movie, The Boss Baby, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2, and Spider-man: Homecoming. There's something suitable for all ages with various ratings.
A massive variety of entertainment and activities will take place on selected nights. The Big Bash Sydney Thunder team will visit with the Thunder Bus and provide cricket coaching clinics and show some cricketing highlights on LED screens. Children's craft and face painting are also available and on Australia Day you can expect roving musicians, carnival rides and fireworks.
The Project Futures charity (working to end human trafficking and exploitation) will also provide a heap of family fun, from kids tattoos to crazy hair-spraying, arts and crafts, and lawn games on the 12th and 21st January, in return for a gold coin donation. Help them out and save lives.
From 6pm each night, food and beverage stalls will be on hand to satisfy your needs and many of the surrounding cafes, restaurants and bars will be open for trading. You're also welcome to pack your own picnic for the night. Bring the rug and cushions and get comfortable for the evening. Low chairs are also allowed.
Movies by the Boulevard runs Wednesdays to Sundays from 12-28 January (except for 27 January when The Foo Fighters are in town and playing at ANZ Stadium), with craft activities beginning at 6pm on family blockbuster nights, the movie program from 8pm and the feature film at 8.30pm. Australia Day sees the festivities begin at 2pm with fireworks at 8.30pm, followed by a special screening of Australian film, Lion.
