Chocolate Hour - Mövenpick Petra

At the
Movenpick Hotel in Petra, Jordan, we experienced "Chocolate Hour" for the first time. I'd read about it before arriving but admit to assuming we'd never be at the hotel at the appointed magical hour. Lucky for us, we attended the Chocolate festivities not once, but twice, served from 4 pm to 5 pm daily.
Located in the Al Multaqa Lobby Lounge just outside the Al Saraya Restaurant where we had all our buffet meals, it's a comfortable place to sit with tables and chairs and a gorgeous three-story chandelier hanging from above, with a feature piece above it.
Between the fixtures, inlaid marble, burbling fountain, and the furniture, you may forget to look for the chocolate but look for the chef in his toque blanche, warming up the chocolate fountains and artfully arranging the delicacies he'll be dipping into chocolate for your mid-afternoon pick-me-up. After all, dinner is still several hours away.
While we were there, strawberries and bananas, dried figs, apricots, pieces of white or milk chocolate, brownie bites, red velvet cake, and peaches made easy and obvious choices. Unexpected were the dried fruits including kiwi, raspberry, and mango. They were sweet without the chocolate, but in the right mood, especially with the right tea blend, they're all delicious.
It makes me feel like I should start a chocolate hour back at home … at least once a week. How about you? Is it something your family would like?
Are you in? Let me know in the comments below – and add your favorite food items to dip in chocolate. Bonus points if they're gluten free.
