Melbourne Cup Weekend, Saturday 29th October and Sunday 30th October, will be a great time for families and you can do no better than to plan a trip to the beautiful Yarra Ranges.
Use this opportunity as anoccasion to add to your book collection while enjoying the scenery and the beautiful Ferny Creek surroundings. 2016 is the year when the annual Mountains of Books Bookfair will be celebrating its 8th year. Book sellers are already preparing for meeting up with many book lovers both old and new from all over the State, and even beyond.
One of the most anticipated Book Fairs in the Victorian calendar is that of the Mountains of Books fair in Ferny Creek. Situated in a bushland setting the Ferny Creek Recreation Hall, Hilton Road is only 1 hrs drive from Melbourne. The Bookfair will be open from 10 am through to 4 pm each day. (Melways 75D1)
With a recognised and growing reputation for quality used, rare and out of print books, this is a "must" event for book lovers everywhere. There will be 12 local second-hand book dealers this year with thousands of books in every category.
An added attraction again will be the peaceful dogs from Canine Comprehension on Sunday the 30th October. These beautiful dogs are trained to be gentle with children and soon have little readers telling them stories from the great selection of kids books.
The Mountains of Books book fair is the time to make a head start with your Christmas list, or just merely your own "wishlist". With out-of-print and hard to get books this is a wonderful opportunity to rediscover old favourites and to introduce well-loved children's books to your kids and grandkids.
Set in sweeping parklands with spring flowers, there is plenty of parking onsite. Wheelchair access allows for everyone to enjoy looking through and over the bookstalls in comfort.
Why not purchase something from the great food counter?
A slice, anyone?
Or pack a picnic hamper and take advantage of the beautiful surroundings to enjoy a picnic outdoors. There's a playground nearby for the kids to burn off some of their excess energy!
So get ready to pack the kids, the dogs, plenty of cartons and or shopping bags, and write this in your diary! It's a "don't-miss" event!
