Learn about tearing, folding, creating decorations
The forthcoming Mountains of Books BookFair held on Melbourne Cup Weekend, Saturday November 2nd 10-4, and Sunday November 3rd 10-4, at the Ferny Creek Recreation Reserve Hall, will be a treasure-trove of books be they rare, out of print and/or hard-to-find.
This year, Guest Paper Artist Joy Serwylo will be present on Saturday November 2nd. Joy is a local artist and is renowned for transforming old and even dilapidated books into works of art. Quirky, romantic, clever, these items are ideal for practical purposes as well as turning your home or special place within your home, into a personal little sanctuary of creativity.
Joy confesses she does read books, but more frequently, cuts, tears, burns and reconfigures them to resemble the trees they once were. However, at this venue, she will be demonstrating their use as decoration. She promises not to desecrate any valuable books!!"
Watching Joy create these works of art allows the onlooker the opportunity to imagine being able to create similar paper constructions, and surely being able to make your own Christmas decorations in advance, would be worthwhile the time spent in seeing some of Joy's techniques.
