Just a few short kilometres from the Sholhaven coast is Mountain Ridge Winery. With great wines to taste and expansive views where blue meets green, this winery is a must go. Situated on an elevated terrain, the winery hosts a cellar door and a restaurant.

As we drive up the sloping path to the parking and cellar door, every sight that meets the eye seems inviting and untainted. The winery is on a 75 acre land boasting of grand views to Berry, Coolangatta and the mountains.

There is a selection of red and white wines and liqueurs on offer to taste. All bottles are priced in the $25-$30 range. Their macadamia liqueur is one of the most popular sellers. As soon as you take one sip, you will experience a strong nutty taste of the liqueur. The liqueur is best served chilled and can be poured over icecream. If you'd like a less nutty taste and a more fruity one, the peach and watermelon liqueur would be more favorable. A popular way of consuming it is to pour it over fruit salad.

The restaurant is called Broughton on the Ridge. It provides a beautiful outlook and view. The menu is not lavish and quite contained, however the good service, good wine, generous portions and peace and quiet make up for it.

A trip to Mountain Ridge Winery and lunch at Broughton restaurant makes a fabulous day trip with the girls. The cellar door is open 7 days from 11 am to 5 pm whereas the restaurant is open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 AM to 3 PM.
