Indie-rock outfit The Mountain Goats will be touring Australia in May, hitting up Perth, Byron Bay, Brisbane, Sydney, Katoomba and Melbourne respectively.
They have had a very decorative career, spanning over the last twenty years. The project began solely as singer-songwriter John Darnielle, despite the plural moniker, and eventually became a variety of working collaborators. The New Yorker magazine referred to Darnielle as "America's best non-hip-hop lyricist", and in June 2006, Paste magazine named him one of the "100 Best Living Songwriters". Critically acclaimed author John Green has also named them his favourite band on more than one occasion. Darnielle's lyrics are literate and filled with imagery that reference classic literature, religion and mythologies, pop culture, art and history. There is no denying that the live performance would be one to cherish.
With an extremely vast selection of albums and an upcoming release for this year announced, now would be the perfect opportunity to give these guys a listen, if you haven't already. If you have, what are you waiting for?
