Ever found yourself in a new 'burb with a need to pass time? My preferred go-to would be Google. That thing is pretty accurate most of the time. So over the weekend we found ourselves at Craigieburn and thought of exploring the suburb on a whim and Google pointed us to Mount Ridley Lookout.

The place, as you can guess, is on a hill. There are beautiful houses which line the street to get there. It is one of the nicer pockets of the suburb. It is quite a steep drive and at a short distance from the Craigieburn Central i.e. main shopping district for the suburb.
It was our first time in the area and we did not know what to expect. The lookout turned out to be a decent place to hang out. It had sufficient car parking slots and a children's play area which was a bonus. Since it was a weekend, there were families who had bought their kids to play. The place was busy but not overly crowded.
The Mount Ridley Reserve spans across quite some land and has something for everyone. Walking tracks for some good brisk walking and park benches if you feel like simply chilling out.
Beautiful city views are guaranteed. Lush green lawns make a perfect spot to lay down your picnic mat on a bright sunny day and enjoy a good glass of red while you gaze at the city.
I could not help but think of the spectacular view Melbourne would put up at night.
The only thing missing were toilets and barbecue areas. We probably could not find toilets but there was no signage to prove its existence. But in all, if you have an hour or more to kill or simply want to see Craigieburn, this place is worth a visit. Make sure you carry a jacket cause the winds can be pretty mean up there.
