Mount Remarkable Summit Hike

Home > Melrose > National Parks | Outdoor | Walks
Published May 6th 2016
For this walk we started at the car park by the tennis courts, walked over the little historic bridge and then took about a 20 minute hike uphill to the main gates. There are a few trails to choose from, I chose the summit hike. Paths are narrow and there are many turns going up, and lots to look at as you walk uphill. Make sure you keep looking where you are walking. It could be easy to fall off the path while looking around.

The first interesting sight I saw was how the hillside was full of rocks.

From here on your ankles get a tough workout. This mountain is covered in red rocks at every turn going up to the summit so sturdy footwear is needed.

There are many opportunities for lovely views of farmlands and Flinders Ranges.

The walk is a steady uphill climb all the way. It is well marked, and takes about 3 to 4 hours, however, the summit itself is not very interesting.

I did, however, find this little tawny lizard among the rocks at the summit. Not much wildlife, but small spiders and lizards can be seen if you take your time to look around.
