Mount Isa Lapidary Club Inc. is for gem stones enthusiasts and for those who are interested to find out more about fossicking around North West Queensland and beyond. Mount Isa Lapidary Club Inc is not only a club for fossicking, but also providing tools and expertise on the art of cutting and polishing rocks and gems.
Each month, there will be club meeting at Mount Isa Lapidary Club to arrange a fossicking trip for collecting purposes. The trip can be from tag-along, one-day tripor an extended weekend camping expedition. There are a number of general permission fossicking areas around the North-West outback of Queensland, such as in Cloncurry where you can find amethystine quartz, amethyst, alluvial gold and maltese crosses. You can find peridots at Chudleigh Park Station north of Hughenden and feldspar 'moonstone' can be found at Moonstone Hill.
When you back from your rock or gemstone collecting, you can do cutting and polishing at the club using their facilities and equipment. They will charge small fee. Silversmithing workshop (where you learn to make wearable gemstone from polished or faceted rocks or gemstones) will be held every Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 10pm.
