Obviously winter is the best time to visit . It is located in the Golan Heights region close to the Syrian border. In fact, its 2814m summit is actually in Syria. Israel controls the southern slopes of the mountain with the highest point being 2236m.

Known for its crisp air and beautiful snowfall, a ski resort has been built there to provide locals and tourists with a place to ski and snowboard. It is extremely popular since it is the only ski resort in Israel. I would advise arriving as early as possible before the car park gets full and the queues get long. We were there by 9am and it was really good - plenty of parking and no queues. However, on the way out at about 2pm, we could not believe what we saw - the massively huge throng of people and cars waiting to come in!

Our group took the chair lifts to the top just to spectate as none of us were experienced skiers. You could rent equipment and take lessons, but snowboarding, building snowmen and snowball fights were on our agenda instead. We had a good amount of snow (in January) and heaps of fun. However, I would advise checking their website first before heading out as temperatures can vary and snowfall can be unpredictable.
