Just outside the rural town of Gayndah is Mount Debateable. Would you query the spelling of this mountain's name? You would not be the only one, for it had been spelled with and without the middle "e". But according to Wikipedia "February 1987, the Queensland Place Names Board confirmed the official spelling to be Mount Debateable".
The name goes back to 1851 when it was the name of a pastoral property, with the middle "e".
Near the town of Gayndah, there are two great lookouts with fantastic views. One on Mt Archer above the Gayndah High School, and the other at Mt McConnell, which is about 14 kms from town, up a winding road taking you high up onto the top of the mountain to see the spectacular views.
As one that enjoys photography, I was interested to see which lookout was the best. It is debatable.
So join the debate and head north to visit Gayndah - there's plenty to see there and a
great motel to stay at.
