Many things have changed since Covid-19 forced Australians into self isolation in March 2020, and as we emerge from it many of us are asking which of the adjustments we needed to make to our lives are ones we would like to keep. One of the adjustments for many of us was to change our daily exercise routines to focus around parks. And although outdoor gyms were closed for a few weeks, they have now reopened and are ready to be integrated into our new, outdoor, exercise routines.

One of South East Queensland's best outdoor gyms is spread around the track at Mount Cotton Community Park . This track is popular with walkers, joggers, and bike riders, and circumnavigates the entire park. There are two main outdoor gym areas, with additional exercise stations installed along the track between them. Water bubblers are also installed along this route.

The first is set between the huge playground and the skate park. This convenient location allows parents to exercise while their older kids or teenagers play, skate, or play basketball.

There is a range of equipment installed here for weights and cardio exercise. This gym area is under shade for much of the day.

The second outdoor gym area is along the track on the other side of the playground and the dog park. This gym overlooks a lake, providing a stress-free environment for exercise.

Here you can simply pedal away and watch the world - and the ducks - go by. There is also a small selection of weights equipment here, and an eliptical trainer.

Walking - or jogging - along the track you will come to additional, smaller exercise stations with equipment for stepping, balancing, doing sit ups, and the like. Stopping to use these don't only provide a break from monotony of walking or jogging, but add variety to your exercise routine as well.

Cool winter temperatures mean this really is the perfect time to make use of outdoor gyms in Queensland. And the pleasant surrounds and varied gym equipment at Mount Cotton Community Park make it one of the best in the region. Mount Cotton Community Park is well connected to the surrounding area via bike paths, and there is a bike rack near to the car park. This means that riding to this outdoor gym is entirely feasable for those who love to pedal!

Facilities for those who love to exercise at Mount Cotton Community Park include:

  • Public toilets
  • Extensive paved tracks with multiple water fountains installed around them
  • A bike rack and a car park
  • Two outdoor gyms
  • Additional gym equipment installed along the tracks

  • Things to bring include:

  • A towel to wipe down the gym equipment when you are finished
  • A water bottle that can be refilled as you exercise
  • Sunscreen and a cap

  • With Mount Cotton Community Park's varied outdoor gym equipment, and the additional mental health benefits of sunlight and being outdoors, be prepared to go home feeling great!
