There are many lookouts with stunning views both within Adelaide and a short drive away, most of which are conveniently painless to access. However, some of these are relatively difficult to get to, especially if you find driving on winding hillside roads or extended uphill hikes unpalatable.

Other lookouts can be overcrowded (though less so in the colder months), their popularity allows the comfort of amenities, shops, a car park and perhaps a cafe or restaurant in the area but also provokes a fleeting sense of loss at the development.

Standing at 517 metres, is only 10 kilometres from the Mount Barker and is relatively less well known. It can be handily accessed by taking Springs Road east from Mount Barker before continuing along Summit Road. A sign on the left marks the turnoff. From there it's only a few minutes to an often deserted car park, home to a radio/mobile phone tower.

A short uphill trek to the picnic grounds is ahead and another 5 to 10 minutes hike is needed to get to the summit itself with spectacular views of surrounding farmlands, Mount Barker and Mount Lofty.

is definitely worth a look if you're in the area or searching for a picnic ground with a great view that is easy to get to!
