Rising to 513 metres above sea level, Mount Barker Summit offers spectacular views of the township and ranges. It can be reached by means of two walking trails.

Summit

The first is just a 250-metre walk from the car park. With an elevation gain of about 30 metres, this short trail is considered relatively easy and suitable for most fitness levels. You'll pass a lookout and picnic area. Once you're at the summit, you can return to your car the same way you came up.

Alternatively, a second two-kilometre circuit trail awaits. This will lead you around the summit through more difficult terrain. Its trailhead can be found near the radio tower at the car park. You'll discover more of the conservation areas of the reserve as you walk. In case you're wondering, environmental community volunteers are the ones helping to maintain the area.

Lookout and picnic area

The car park gates open at 8 am every day except on total fire ban days. They are then locked again by 6 pm, although this could be slightly later (possibly 8 pm) during summer. There is no entrance fee. Simply enter via Mount Summit Road approximately 40 minutes drive from Adelaide city. For more information, check out www.mountbarker.sa.gov.au .
