This weekend, Australia's premier automotive extravaganza, Motorclassica, will fill the halls of Melbourne's Royal Exhibition Building and the adjacent grounds with more than 500 cars and motorcycles as well as automotive memorabilia, artwork, models and other collectibles.
Now in its sixth consecutive year, Motorclassica has firmly established itself as this country's only internationally-significant exhibition of rare and exotic, historic, vintage, veteran, classic and collectable cars and motorcycles.This year's event will be held from 23rd to 25th October 2015 and celebrate the history of horsepower!The centrepiece of the showcase is a selection of special celebration displays, the biggest being a '50 Years of the Supercar' tribute, the global automotive genre that began with the legendary Lamborghini Miura of the mid 1960s.
Complementing these displays is an extraordinary line-up of 20 strong 'Supercars' from around the globe, including a McLaren F1, valued at $10 million and a $1 million Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona, one of the most beautiful cars ever built! And, even rarer than the McLaren is the Pagani Zonda, which was once considered the fastest production road car ever built!In addition to this, will be a display celebrating 50 years of Ferrari's legendary Dino.
Also marking half a century is the Shelby Mustang and in a major coup for Motorclassica, the event will host Australia's first look at the new 2015 Shelby Mustang thanks to importer, Craig Dean's Mustang Motorsport.For Bike enthusiasts, Motorclassica will pay tribute to 70 years of the Italian marque MV Agusta and also recognise some local heritage by celebrating 50 years of the Bugatti Owners Club in Australia.
Mercedes Benz and Jaguar also return for the third year running and will be joined by 2014 attendees, Alfa Romeo, Lotus, Porsche, Maserati, Morgan and Caterham, while Ferrari, BMW, Citreon and MINI are new for 2015.Joining the stellar line-up of contemporary car manufacturers are motorcycle brands MV Agusta, BMW and Royal Enfield, who will all showcase the latest models from their current ranges.
An annual highlight of Motorclassica is the Australian International Concours d'Elegance, which will see a capacity entry set of more than 100 cars and around 40 motorcycles competing in eight classes for the most prestigious Awards in automotive exhibiting.Outside in the surrounding courtyard, over 400 classic and collectible cars and motorcycles, from 37 clubs will be displayed by enthusiast owners as part of the Lorbek Luxury Cars sponsored "Club Sandwich" where they will compete for Best Club Display and Best Presented Car awards.
Also, don't miss this year's Tour Classica. Docklands New Quay Promenade will be the starting point of this popular event, which sees select Motorclassica exhibits drive in convoy through the streets of Melbourne's CBD. This year's event will take place on Thursday 22 October.Come watch some of Australia's most valuable and rarest cars and motorcycles leave Docklands at 9.30am, parading along La Trobe Street into Exhibition Street, then into Rathdowne Street before the arriving at the Motorclassica venue around 10am.Also on the Motorclassica program is the annual Collector Car & Memorabilia Auction, conducted by Theodore Bruce on the Saturday night, at which over 100 lots of automotive ephemera and around 30 classic cars and motorcycles will go under the hammer.
New for 2015 is the 'Park & Sell', which will operate Friday 23 October, giving owners of collectible cars and motorcycles keen to attract buyer interest a dedicated and secure area to showcase their goods. A VIP Club Lounge will also debut in 2015. The exclusive enclosure, located right under the dome of the Royal Exhibition Building, provides a first class experience for guests. The Lounge can be enjoyed as part of a package, offering, attendance at the opening evening cocktail party, an unlimited entry three day pass to Motorclassica, priority entry each day, and premium food and drink service.Motorclassica also entertains with special guest speakers on centre stage, vendors offering motorcycling paraphernalia, collectibles, automotive artwork and books, and specialists providing restoration support services.
