Mothers, at least in a patriarchal pre-first-wave-feminism household, are so busy with domestic duties that they cherish every second of their private time. This Mother's Day why not leave her to her own devices?
Recommend a Facebook game to keep her glued to the computer screen. If she isn't addicted to Candy Crush Saga yet then now is the time to introduce her to the world of free-to-play computer games. If Bejeweled clones don't cut it then maybe an action-packed massively multiplayer online roleplaying game like DC Universe Online might do the trick?
Be the trophy son/daughter
Every mother wants their offspring to shine. Why not embark on an educational journey to become a lawyer or a doctor? Mums dig professional aspirations that benefit them when they are retired. So stop being a disappointment and make something of yourself, slacker.
If you have already attained a pride-worthy job then do not skimp on the gifts. Get her that gold plated spa this instant.
Do that thing she pesters you about
Remember that thing you promised to do ages ago but always put off for whatever reason? Make May 12 the deadline for that thing that you promised to do. That's right, get it over and done with. Stop procrastinating and make good on the promise. Do it.
Be a mum to your mum
Do not let your mother cook. Do not let your mother clean. Do not let your mother be a mother this Mother's Day.
Experience the wonderful role of the 'mother' by doing the day-to-day things she might normally do instead. This role reversal is an excellent way to appreciate all the little things she does.
Who knows, you may even learn something. Give her a break, it's only for one day.
Give her space
Just because it's Mother's Day does not mean it is mandatory to bug her. Maintain that maternal bond and have a chat with the old lady prior to May 12.
Rather than leaving crucial planning to the last minute find out what she intends to do so that everybody is happy. Perhaps catching up before or after the special Sunday would fit better in the puzzle that is a mother's calendar.
Take her out
Get her out of the house. Let her get all fancy and a book a table at her favourite restaurant.
If your mother's regular venue is booked out, or she wants something different, then try Silver Chopsticks in Werribee. Pleasant staff and excellent Chinese-Malaysian cuisine means a perfect Mother's Day outing.
