May's Love Your Local Markets Hawthorne falls on Mother's Day, Sunday 12th May. This special Mother's Day market is focused on ensuring there's plenty of goodies to make mum's day special and providing a fun morning out that the whole family can enjoy together.


If you need help to entertain the children whilst mum takes some time out you will find plenty of activities to keep them busy, including face painting, art and crafts, and a bouncy castle. They can also visit a cute as a button petting farm complete with mothers and babies in keeping with the day's family theme.

The Mother's Day markets open at 7am, but at 8.30am there will be a New Mums Pilates class run by Bulimba Pilates' Kelly Foote, a qualified physiotherapist who specialises in returning new mothers to their pre-baby core. Mothers who have a few years of motherhood under their belt, or anyone else for that matter, can also enjoy a class at 9.30am. Classes will cost $5 each, which is being donated to The Hunger Project after a local resident, Gemma Lloyd, proposed the charitable cause for the Mother's day event.

Gemma will also be giving hand pamper treatments to raise funds for The Hunger Project, which empowers communities, particularly women and usually mothers, to be able to provide for their families in some of the poorest and poverty stricken places in the world.

You can also spoil mum with a professional massage on the day with several massage therapists available with differing services.


You can pick up some delicious home made chocolates, treats, flowers or fabulous gifts from the stalls if you are heading out to visit mum. This month, the market will be joined by some new farmers with fresh produce in addition to those favourites who will be returning again. Other stalls include vintage clothes for those who enjoy a rummage, hand crafted jewellery, and lots of other new, interesting stalls for you to browse at the Mother's Day Market.

Why not bring a picnic rug, grab a coffee, a paper and something yummy to eat and enjoy the live music whilst the children play with friends on the green? The markets are designed with families in mind and are the ideal place to while away this Mother's Day.
