Although Mother's Day is technically the second Sunday of May which falls on the 11th of May this year, make the month of May a celebration month to honour a very special person in your life. There are a few Mother's Day events happening around Brisbane which you can take your mum to, spending quality time and showing your gratitude through fun and laughter.

Mother's Day Classic – South Bank
If both you and your mum would like to improve your health and donate to a good cause on Mother's Day, join Australia's biggest charity fun run at South Bank. You can either participate in the 4.5km or 8km run or walk, starting at the Cultural Forecourt in the Parklands. The run is organised to support breast cancer research, with a special Tribute wall in the centre of the Cultural Forecourt. The run/walk starts at 6am on 11th of May. Entry prices for adult walkers are $35 as an early bird online or $50 on the day. It is a fun day for the whole family with extra activities such as warm-up aerobics, live entertainment and a kids activity area.

Mother's Day musical morning tea
If your mum is more of a music enthusiast, bring her to the Old Government House on the 12th of May for a cultural fill. Held from 10am to 11.30am, treat your mum to an uplifting morning of mandolin music. Set in a unique colonial setting, Mandolins in Brisbane will be performing a selection of music with a range from traditional, classical, folk-inspired, contemporary and Italian pieces. Enjoy a morning tea with a selection of sandwiches, cakes and teas as you both soak in the sweet sounds. Tickets cost $39.95. Call 3138 4455 to make a booking.

Breakfast buffet at Geebung Zillmere RSL
Treat your mum to a delicious buffet breakfast on the 11th of May from 7.30 am to 10am at the Geebung Zillmere RSL. There is a colouring competition on the day for kids as well as a chocolate and flower for mum. Cost = $19.95 for adults and $9.95 for kids. Bookings are essential. Mummy tree Markets – Everton Park
Held at Everton Park hotel, Flockton Street, Brisbane, the mummy tree markets is a free boutique family market specialising in hard to find products and services. Held on Saturday, the 17th of May 2014 from 9am to 1pm, bring the whole family along to enjoy the free children's entertainment, playground and restaurant on site.
