Smoke filled skies and the threat of rain did not dampen the enthusiasm of the pink clad participants at the
Parramatta event . Couples, family teams and groups of friends dressed in pink costumes tackled the event with good humour and gusto. People could choose to run or walk 4km or 8km. Water stands were manned by happy volunteers who also ensured we stayed on the course. About halfway round the course a great Brazilian samba band revved us up and put a bounce into our steps.
The determination to raise money for breast cancer research was reinforced by the sadness of reading the tribute cards and memorial t-shirts worn by some entrants. As always children were well catered for with a couple of jumping castles and a face painting stand.
At the start/finish area there were food stalls, information stands, selfie backdrops, music and giveaways of muesli bars and gift bags. On the stage there was a presentation of trophies to race winners as well as aerobic and dance displays. Spot prizes were also given out for best dressed participants.
According to the
e-newsletter Sydney had the highest percentage of fundraiser participants in 2015. If every participant raised $50 over $4 million would be raised for breast cancer research. I have done my bit raising $170 this year and intend to keep up the good work next year.
