History of the Event
The first MDCs were held in Melbourne and Sydney in 1998, attracting 3200 entrants. The word quickly spread, and annual participation now exceeds 125,000 entrants. Capital city entrants number from 1400 in Darwin, to a whopping 44,000 in Melbourne. Even the smallest regional centres feel the effects of breast cancer in their communities, and anywhere between 65-3000 people come together in support of women (and men) everywhere. Check out the
photo gallery for last year's event on the Gold Coast.
Breast Cancer Awareness
Breast cancer is highly unpredictable. It can strike both men and women. Awareness is key to early detection and treatment. Regular self-examination is highly recommended, and
Breast Screen Australia provides services specifically designed for women over 50. Be informed about
women's health issues , and talk to your doctor.
