Yoga for bonding mum and bub moment
Congratulations on the birth of your beautiful baby! Yoga is a wonderful way of looking after yourself after the birth of your baby. Practising yoga with your baby isn't just an adorable good time, as the two of you bond, but also toning your entire body as your baby develops motor skills.

While many exercise classes focus only on the mother, yoga baby has lead the way in placing the baby in the centre of the experience, thereby helping the attachment between mother and baby blossom.

Yoga relaxes the nervous system and brings balance to the endocrine system (hormonal balance). It helps to create a balance between your body's physical needs and your emotional state. While you challenge your core, thighs, arms and shoulders during this gentle yoga practice, your baby benefits, too. It will help your baby sleep longer and help stimulate her mental and physical development. Yoga movements can mimic the soothing rocking motion your baby felt while in the womb. This stimulates the relaxation response in both of you, helping you and your baby fall asleep easier and sleep longer.

Mothers and Babies Yoga at Coast Yoga at 6 Moseley St, Glenelg, Adelaide, offers a programme for postnatal bodies and is available for women from 6 weeks after the birth and 8 weeks after a caesarean. The class is held with you and your baby. In this class, you will do some gentle massage and stretching with your baby and then rest of the class focuses on strengthening your abdominal and back muscles with yoga and pilates. You will find the class to be a full and appropriately paced workout especially targeting tight muscles in your back and shoulders.
