Here's a hot tip from me to you: Saturday 15th of July will be even more fun than an afternoon spent reading Emily Brontë's only novel! is a chance to throw on your best red frock and cup your face in the park as you celebrate Kate's Bush's classic music video. Sorry fans of Edwardian era romance novels we're recreating beloved music video choreography instead!

Which Music Video? This one!

I spoke to the producer of the Brisbane event, Kristian Fletcher about what's in store in Bedford Park.

KM: What is ''?

KF: Held in many capital cities around the world and every Australian state, is held in July which sees Kate Bush fans, wearing red dresses and gathering in a local park to re-enact the Wuthering heights (1978) music video.

KM: Have you ever done an event like this before? Where did you get the idea?

KF: In 2016, the founders of the Wuthering Heights Day opened the event to global participants and I jumped at the chance to present the Brisbane chapter. I've been running Kate Bush events in Brisbane since 2003. I've put a few tribute nights, cabarets and video parties together celebrating the singer-songwriter, also working with local performers to reinterpret her songs live.

KM: Why should people come along?

KF: After launching last year, it is a great community event – something fun to share with the kids and your friends. It's lovely seeing three generations of a family come together for a bit of silly fun on a Saturday afternoon. Even men turn up in red – so everyone is welcome! I'm excited to welcome back Meece & Mark who will perform a song or two between the routines.

KM: What do people need to do/ prepare before the event?

KF: Organise red dress as close to the music video as possible (see Iridelicacies tutorial here)https://www.facebook.com/pg/Iridelicacies/photos/?tab=album&album_id=712521452230559

Revisit the original music video (please note: the red dress version was popular in Australia. The white dress UK version features a slightly different dance so make sure you watch the red one!)

Practice the moves with the handy video tutorial

KM: What if you're a bad dancer?

KF: Doesn't matter! It's the willingness to be involved and get up and give it a go.
The park ends up as a mass frolic during the last verse – a sea of red dresses 'roll and fall in green'. I think NOT being perfect makes this so much more fun!

KM: Why do you think Wuthering Heights is such an iconic music video?

KF: For many, it's a form of ridicule which has seen it parodied over the years and become engrained in pop culture, but for us who LOVE it, it represents freedom and the break-through debut of Kate Bush. EMI didn't want to release Wuthering Heights as the lead single but Kate pushed for its release!

Kate Bush as an artist was expressing herself through dance and not feeling any restraints by popular music at the time. Britain was in punk mode, yet here comes this high pitched 'novelty' single. She proved them all wrong and went on to be a big artist. Kinda like how ABBA escaped the Eurovision title to have a serious career.
By the release of her first album, there was no question she would be big. Many of those songs were written at fifteen years of age. Whilst Kate remains somewhat a 'culty' artist in Australia, in the UK, she's the biggest selling female artist.

Sound good to you? Here are all the important facts you need to join Kristian and all the Kate Bushes in the fun!

What?
It's a whole bunch of people dressed as Kate Bush from her Wuthering Heights music video, meeting in the park. Then, as a fun-loving group, the music video's iconic dance will be recreated by all participants.

When?
From 2;30pm on Saturday 15th July.

Wear?
A red dress - as close to what is seen in the video as possible!

Okay, but Where?
Bedford Park. It's located on the corner of Love and Water Street, Spring Hill.

Why?
There will be Kate Bush music and the chance to have photos and meet other fans!
Plus a live performance by Meece & Mark.

How?
The afternoon will include an introduction and an instructional of the dance moves. After some practice runs, everyone will perform the routine a few times.

Kristian said, "Over the course of the afternoon, we perform the song about 3 times, breaking in between for photos, to mingle with fans and visit the food van for refreshments."

A coffee van and toilet facilities will be available. There is limited parking in the area so you're encouraged to catch public transport where possible. As this a fan-run community event, please bring a small donation on the day to help cover park hire, equipment and liability.

Once you're done, keep the party going at the Kate Bush Bash!

KATE BUSH BASH
A collection of guest entertainers will perform some of Kate's biggest hits live. There will be Kate Bush music videos and the chance to dance to some of your favourite songs. Featuring the music of The Kick Inside, right through to 50 Words For Snow. With licensed bar (18 Plus Event).
When: Saturday 15 July 6.00pm
Where: Jubilee Hotel, 470 St Pauls Tce, Fortitude Valley
Cost: $13.50 (online, including booking fee) or $15.00 at the door
