Around the world and over the ages, the "Magnificat" in its many musical settings has been an object of veneration and suspicion – veneration because few Biblical texts have had so many superb and stirring settings – suspicion because some of its words were seen as subversive of authoritarian regimes
My soul doth magnify the Lord.
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded: the lowliness of his handmaiden: …
He hath shewed strength with his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seat: and hath exalted the humble and meek. He hath filled the hungry with good things: and the rich he hath sent empty away.
It is always inspirational when a community gathers together to sing – and puts the hard work into truly magical music.
The man who made this happen in Maleny is Kim Kirkman (formally from the Ten Tenors) who helped found The Inspiration choir four years ago and who has since also formed choirs in Caloundra and Beachmere.
He is also well known in the area as a therapeutic harpist.
So why not combine a visit to the Sunshine coast with hearing some of the most stirring choral music ever written – works by Purcell, Vivaldi, Porpora and others?
Set aside the dates – Friday 30 November 2018 7:00 PM and Sunday 2 December 2018 2:00 PM - in Nambour Uniting Church (see the above poster for details)
