Mosman Art Society's 9×5 Spring Exhibition

Once again, the members of the Mosman Art Society will be bringing you their Art Society's Annual 9x5 2017 Show. It will be held at the Julian Ashton Art School and start on Saturday the 2nd September and conclude Sunday the 17th September 2017.

The show will be held in Building 17, Headland Park at 1100A Middle Head Rd, Georges Heights, Sydney and from the pictures of the painting that I have seen, it promises to be bigger and better than 2016. The history behind the show is that the Australian Impressionist Movement's first exhibition mainly consisted of 9" x 5" paintings on discarded cigar box lids. Some of the artists back then were the likes of Streeton, Robert and Conder.

Julian Ashton was part of that movement after which the Julian Ashton Art School (JAAS) was formed - being the oldest continuous art school in the country with Julian Ashton descendent, Paul Ashton Delprat, currently (and for many years) as Principal. Paul is Patron of Mosman Art Society and it is in the JAAS premises at Georges Heights of Mosman that the MAS 9x5 show is held each year.

In 2016, the Mosman Art Society, which has a membership of 153, had 112 paintings on show, of which they sold over 40. One of the members and a very accomplished artist, Steve Jannar, has been reviewing 30 of the paintings which will be in the show.

Some of which are by Elaine Romalis, Suzanne Alexander, Shelly Hui Du, Michael Braden and Sally West. Steve will also have some of his painting in the exhibition.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10am to 5pm, except the final Sunday, when it will open at 10am and close at 1.30pm.

So why don't you make a morning of it! Visit the Mosman Art Society's Annual 9x5 2017 Show and pick yourself up a painting. Then drop into Frenchy's Café in Headland Park for coffee and cake. Or maybe take in the views of the harbour, including across to North & South Head.
