Come and see this classic ballet
The Nutcracker - What a wonderful, enchanting ballet this is, and it's coming to Perth, Bunbury, Mandurah and Albany this March 2018.

Written by Tchaikovsky, The Nutcracker ballet is perhaps the composer's most famous work. It is often performed around Christmas time due to the ballet's content, and many families make it an annual tradition to attend a performance of this.

If you've never seen The Nutcracker ballet, then this is your chance to see this famous and beautiful ballet, which will be presented by the Moscow Ballet La Classique.

One of the greatest successes to come out of Russian theatre is possibly this classical ballet. Following sold-out performances of Swan Lake, Moscow Ballet La Classique will return to Australia to present this jewel of a classic ballet.

La Classique was founded in 1990 by its current director Elik Melikov, and is renowned for its "artistic ballet mastery, lavish costumes and magnificent stage sets".

HISTORY OF THE NUTCRACKER
The Nutcracker takes you back on a journey to the cold, gas lit world of Clara, her beloved nutcracker doll and the magician Drosselmeyer. The origin of The Nutcracker, a classic Christmas sory, is a fairy tale ballet which is presented in two acts, centred on a family's Christmas Eve celebration.

Alexandre Dumas Père's adaptation of the story by E.T.A. Hoffmann was set to music by Tchaikovsky and originally choreographed by Marius Petipa. Since it's premiere in western countries in the 1940's, this ballet has become one of the most popular to be performed around Christmas time.

The romantic story centres on a young girl's Christmas Eve and her realisation about the wider world and about romantic love. The composer made a selection of eight of the more popular pieces before the ballet's December 1892 premiere, forming what is currently known as the Nutcracker Suite, or Op. 71a, as it is known as in Moscow Ballet productions.

It became popular straight away, however, the complete ballet did not achieve its great popularity as a Christmas performance event until almost 100 years after this event. It is a story with both magic and realism, and it brings to life the popular Tchaikovsky score featuring the famous "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "The Waltz of the Flowers."

This performance will capture the imagination, as well as the passion and indeed, humour, and bring to you the magic of the ballet.

The Jersey Evening Post is quoted as saying "As sweet as a nut, it doesn't get much better than this"

Bop Times says "you do not have to be a ballerina to love this lavish performance and lush music which magically brings to life one of our most loved tales"

While the Waikato Times says "The Moscow Ballet La Classique's 'the nutcracker' with its stunning sets, costumes and dancers was truly magical to watch"
