Mos Burger, Sunnybank

East meets west in a tasty fast food explosion at this popular Japanese burger chain.

MOS Burger was established in Japan in 1972 and currently has more than 1500 stores spread across four Asian nations. The company is now entering Australia, with Sunnybank Plaza chosen as the site for the first franchise store.

MOS, which stands for Mountain, Ocean and Sea, may look like a typical Western burger joint, but it's actually very different. The menu is distinctly Japanese burger fillings include sashimi, pork katsu and teriyaki beef. Instead of tomato sauce, wasabi-mayo is the favoured condiment and the burger buns are made entirely from cooked rice. Side dishes include fried prawns and milk tea.

And while MOS Burger is considered a fast food restaurant, the company's focus on service and quality means that there is typically a ten minute wait on burgers. If you're chasing an instant snack, this probably isn't the best place to go.

For those who prefer their burgers American style, the eatery does offer cheeseburgers on bread buns and French fries.

MOS Burgers is located inside the Sunnybank Plaza Food Court (corner Mains Road and McCullough Street) and is open seven days a week.

MOS burger is great. We ate at it many times in japan. The terriyaki and a pork katsu (which they don't have in oz) burgers were the best!

stbmo - No, the sunnybank one was the first one. I visited there before the Booval one opened. There's one close to the Queen St mall now too.
