I wanted to write this article as I really believe in the opportunities Mornington Peninsula Youth Enterprises provide to disadvantaged youth.

Helping youth in need, to gain life skills and experiences. Youth working together with experienced volunteers who mentor and give them the confidence they need to learn new skills, to achieve what they previously thought was impossible.

It's also about helping them to gain meaningful employment and working as a member of the community.



This program started about 10 years ago to help youths with difficulties in the mainstream education system. It's for youth with addictions, mental health issues or disabilities. The program has helped many ever since.

The youth are taught many skills that include metal work, woodwork, garden maintenance, customer service, plant identification and business skills, until the time comes that they can manage their own small business in the horticultural field.



You can help support this program by buying plants at the MPYE Nursery. Plants are great value with Tubes costing $2.50 and 6 inch pots $5. They stock a good range of native and drought tolerant plants.

I have bought many plants from the nursery and they are very hardy and drought tolerant. I have grown a hedge out of a native shrub that looks great. They have adapted to our sandy soil and produce stunning purple flowers in spring. And the best part is that it cost under $100 to hedge the entire front fence line.
