I'm a qualified UK lawyer, who emigrated to Australia in May 2012. I have three small children and we've been getting to know Brisbane and making it our home.

There is a lot more to the south side suburb of Morningside than meets the eye. Here are some of my favourite haunts.

The Fish Factory on Lytton Road offers a superb array of fresh seafood and cooked seafood. The simple fresh seafood display shows off what's on offer to its full advantage, including sashimi grade tuna, oysters, king crab and a selection of succulent prawns and lobsters - mouth watering? I know mine is!

There is also a selection of cooked and frozen seafood to tantalise your taste buds, but my favourite part is the cooked seafood take away counter where you can get fish & chips, salt & pepper squid, scallops, fresh homemade seafood salad and much more. All reasonably priced and delicious.

Open 7 days per week, I love to nip there for a treat for the whole family if I haven't got the appetite to cook.

Feast on Fruit on Junction Road sells the most tasty fresh fruit and vegetables and the attached deli has everything you could want and more to keep your fridge, freezer and pantry well stocked. I love the banana and raspberry bread. Even though its only a modest sized shop, I find I could spend an age there, looking at all the goodies on offer. Luckily all the plates of fruit to taste placates my little boy for long enough for me to enjoy having a good look around.

The service is excellent and the staff always offer to carry your shopping to your car if they can see you have your hands full with children!

Major Cuts Butchery on Junction Road is a traditional family butcher. You perhaps won't find some of the fancy pants items you'd find on James Street, for example, but what they do, they do well. I love the rosemary and mint lamb joints which can be put straight in the oven for an easy meal.

Flour & Chocolate offers a spectacular selection of the most exquisite baked goods. They have special themes on certain days, such as Brownie Friday and Doughnut Wednesday, the salted caramel doughnuts are to die for!

They also have the most delicious sandwiches with homemade relishes, jars of which are also available in the shop. I especially love their selection of freshly baked breads. I haven't found anywhere else that sells such tasty bread.

The Morningside Panthers ground hosts the new monthly Love Your Local Markets Hawthorne. This fabulous new boutique market is held on a monthly basis in the carkpark to the Morningside Panthers club house. There are a wonderful array of stalls and something for all of the family with a different attraction for children each time such as, a bouncy castle, petting farm, face painting or pony rides. Delicious hot food, great fresh produce, live music and a selection of lifestyle stalls makes it a fabulous addition to the area.

These are my personal favourites but, with much more on offer, Morningside is a hidden gem for unique food shops.
