There are so many great places to celebrate
Australia Day, one would have to count
Mornington as one of those amazing places to be. Head out to
Mornington Park at the corner of Schnapper Point Drive and the Esplanade from
3pm to 9.30pm on
Monday the 26th of January 2015 and join in the fun of celebrating our great nation. Along the Mornington Peninsula other Australia Day celebrations by the shire can be found at
Sorrento ;
Rye ;
Rosebud ;
Dromana ;
Hastings and
Mount Eliza .
The main stage is going to be filled with 'live' entertainment hosted by Pete and Ange from RPP FM's 'The Breakfast Scoop' and they'll be presenting the following performers. At
3pm The Mighty bUZZniks ;
4.15pm Tony Byrne and the Peninsula All Stars;
5.30pm Facades ;
7pm Waz E James Band ;
8.15pm Mahalia Barnes and The Soul Mates (now that name needs no introduction).
At the same time the community dance stage will be featuring classical, hip-hop and cultual dance performances by local peninsula dance groups. At
4pm you'll have
Little Munchkins Dance Crew ; at
5.15pm the
La Dicia School of Dance and last but not least at
8pm the
Mongolian Traditional Dance.
If cooking is your thing, there'll be
free cooking demonstrations and Kid's Cooking Workshops by
Sweetpea Cuisine from
3pm to 8.30pm. Between
3pm to 4.30pm and 6.15pm to 7.15pm the kids can join in on hands on foodie activities. The
Pavlova and Spoon Races will be held from
4.30pm to 5.15pm and finally the
Cooking Demonstrations from
5.15pm to 6.15pm and 7.15pm to 8.30pm.
Enjoy all day free family activities, roving entertainment, workshops and displays including 'Specky Dreaming' AFL games, 'Come & Try' hockey games with the
Mornington Peninsula Hockey Club, mini golf, free face painting and photo booth, 'Kids Zone' family friendly precinct and free hands-on
African drumming workshops from 7pm to 8pm. All
amusement rides are $5 each and you'll get the tickets from the amusement precinct.
The
Australia Day Main Street Parade from 5pm to 6pm will feature over 50 Mornington Peninsula community groups and the
flag raising will follow from 6.15pm to 7pm by the Mornington Girl Guides and the
406 Squadron Air Force Cadets . The National Anthem is by
Sam Hafey with an address from
Australia Day Ambassador Norman Eizenberg. Grab a spot for a great view from the Mornington Beach or Mornington Park next to Kids Zone for the conclusion of the festivities with a
Fireworks Display (subject to weather) from 9.15pm to 9.30pm.
