When is a club not just a club – when it's the . You don't have to be a sailor or own a boat to be a member either. The club welcomes the public to become members and enjoy the facilities of this great venue.

The Club history was created when two men Bill Lamond and John Harper placed an ad in the Wynnum Herald in 1959. The first group of men that met laid a boat ramp out of old railway sleepers at Wynnum Creek to launch their boats. Club pennants were ordered in 1960 and the colours of black and gold were adopted. In 1962 they were looking for land around the mouth of the Wynnum Creek to build a boat house. That never eventuated. However when reclaimed land became available for lease in Many Harbour they were able to build a 6-lane boat ramp and a security fence around the property.

An initial two storey Clubhouse was built and opened on 22nd March 1975, and within five (5) years was extended to double the size. In 1993 the MBTBC Marina was officially opened. Today membership has reached in the approximate of 3,500.

I have in the past visited the Club for lunch in the restaurant area or seating outside on the deck which overlooks the harbour and beautiful yachts. However last week, my work decided to hire the Club's Conference Room, named the Stradbroke Room, for our Planning Meeting.

So what is there behind the glass doors to the Stradbroke Room? I was pleasantly surprised to find a very spacious area for our meeting and although we only occupied a small portion of the vast downstairs rooms, it was lovely not to be hemmed into a small room with no view. Lounge sofas and coffee tables create a relaxing feeling when those important break-out times are required, allowing us to move away from the conference table.

Screens and white boards are provided and although the Club does not have a projector, they can easily hire one for you. Or, if as we did you can bring you own.

Full sized glass doors and windows surrounds the Stradbroke Room area with a landscape view of fresh blue water that meets the sky and yachts moored at their respective wharves.

Helen, the Events Co-ordinator met our every need with scrumptious scones, jam and cream, a variety of teas and percolated coffee for our morning tea break. Mints and chilled water on the table were replenished after each break. Our lunch option could either be served in the Stradbroke Room with mixed sandwiches, fruit platter, hot savouries, quiche and garden salad or a hot meal served upstairs in the restaurant. We opted for the hot meal upstairs which also gave us an opportunity of leaving the thinking downstairs while we enjoyed our meal.

Baptisms, Christenings, Weddings, Wakes, Engagements and Birthday Parties are just some of the occasions catered for at the . If you can imagine an event, then they can make it happen for you.

The Stradbroke Room has a private bar for your function and a decent size dance floor so one can demonstrate their Fred Astaire talents. An enclosed grassed area is accessible from the Stradbroke Room so you have no worry if your children wonder outside to play as they are safe.

A sail covers an outside area with wooden tables and benches provided. This area provides a number of ideas for your unique event.

I liked the full size mirror in the Ladies Toilet, which was in addition to the one above the basin. As we ladies all know, we need to have one final look over back and front before re-entering the room. I was pleased to see we had an option of whether to dry our hands with air or with paper towel. An added touch of a box of tissues sat on the basin and another excellent idea of no door needing to be opened when exiting, just after you had washed your hands. Well done MBTBC.

There is a small room upstairs for the interested pokies players and many a man meeting after work around the bar a good yarn.

So next time you are in the area, take the time to call in for a drink or scrumptious meal at the Moreton bay Trailer Boat Club and don't forget to give them the opportunity to celebrate with you for your next big event.
