Waiting in line for coffee I picked up a couple of brochures to read 'What's on' in the
Moreton Bay Region . To my delight I came across a Moreton Bay Region "Food for Thought (and RADF) flyer which informed me of a craft night being held at the
Samford Farmers Hall in Main Street
Samford Village on Thursday 12th November. The night was from 5.30 – 8.30pm, it was a "Food for Thought (and RADF) – Hands on Workshop – Natural Sculptural Decorations with artist Simone Eisler and the night was free.
Free? How many workshops are free these days and the fact that
Simone Eisler a Queensland artist with an extensive international exhibition profile would be assisting us in creating our own masterpiece using natural materials from the backyard was something I just had to attend. We were to bring items such as pine cones, leaves, sticks, ribbon, cardboard or anything we could find that we felt would add to our creation. I did learn that Barramundi fish scales are excellent for craft work of this kind. Simone started the night with a presentation of her work.
Food for Thought (and RADF) is a professional development program for artists and arts workers and is held throughout the year across venues in the Moreton Bay Region. Talks, workshops and networking sessions are offered. Approximately one event per month is held and most are free. Booking is essential for each event as some classes are limited to specific numbers. A pizza meal and juice was also provided free of charge.
Simone Eisler is a
Brisbane /
Sunshine Coast based artist who has exhibited her work in
The Philippines ,
Indonesia ,
New York, Belgium, Paris ,
Berlin and
Australia . Her art practice explores the relationship between nature and the human or animal body through a range of medium including sculpture, sound, painting, drawing, installation and photography. Current exhibitions of her work can be located on her website. Simone is also available for public commissions. I was amazed at such a down-to-earth lady, ever so happy to pass on her vast knowledge to all the avid crafters in the room. Simone says nothing is a mistake, everything is a creation.
The next Food for Thought (and RADF) event is their end of year celebration on Saturday 5th December at the
Bribie Island Seaside Museum,
Bongaree . This event is also free and kicks off at 1.00pm and concludes at 4.00pm. The museum, which was opened in 2010 is a contemporary museum of history and is nestled in parkland enjoying scenic views of
Pumicestone Passage .
Attendees will be given a guided tour of Fibro Coast at
Bribie Island Seaside Museum and then stroll over to the oldest house on Bribie –
Coungeau House where cool drinks and a gourmet sausage sizzle will be served. After lunch you will have a chance to listen to groovy beach music or dance the afternoon away.
Anyone holding an upcoming event or wishing to share a success story from 2015 will be able to grab a 5-minute time slot at the Open Mike. To register your interest in the Open Mike, you need to contact the Moreton Bay Regional Council Community Programs.
Bookings for this event are essential and this can be done by booking
online .
If you are wishing to list your event on the
Moreton Bay Regional Council website , these need to be submitted at least two weeks prior to the date and must be held within the Moreton Bay Region. Other
Terms and Conditions can be found on their website.
I had such a creative and inspiring time at Simone's night in November, that I'm now looking forward to the new events calendar for 2016.
