The Martin Suite at Morella House Bed and Breakfast in Clare is the perfect place for rest, relaxation and romance. The private self-contained suite is secluded, elegant and spacious. It has two bedrooms, a living and dining area, kitchenette and bathroom that are clean, meticulously appointed and lavishly decorated with old world charm.

One can't help but feel like royalty in the first bedroom with a deep burgundy palette, exposed wooden beams, heavy drapes and antique furnishing. For sweet dreams and a good night's sleep, the warm and welcoming bedroom features a dramatic four-poster bed with a gauzy white canopy.

The plush plum coloured carpet leads to the bathroom with a claw foot bath fit for two. There is no better way to enjoy a complementary bottle of Clare Valley wine than immersed in a candlelit bubble bath. Fluffy white towels and robes are supplied to dry off and snuggle up in after.



Everything required to cook a hearty breakfast can be found in the kitchenette across the hall. The generous offering of breakfast provisions includes bread, croissants, eggs, bacon, cereal, condiments, hot and cold drinks and even some freshly baked treats. Vegetarian and gluten-free diets are gladly catered for upon request.

The opulence of the first bedroom is replaced by a rustic style open plan living and dining area. The large room is no less impressive with slate floor, exposed stone walls and French doors that flood the room with morning sunlight and open out to the garden, barbecue, and outdoor setting.

It is comfortable, well-equipped and feels like home with a dining table, chairs, couches, television, iPod dock, and even a bar. A chest of drawers stocks an assortment of board games and contains information about the property and local attractions.



Low lighting adds to the ambience of the suite. The slate, stone and sheer size of the dining and living area keeps it cool, but with a few logs in the combustion wood heater the room is soon warm and cosy.

The slate and stone work extend into the second bedroom that is as intriguing as it is inviting. It was once a cellar and has a massive wooden arched double door, dome ceiling and a beautiful chandelier.

With very little noise heard from the occupants of the adjacent Iris Suite, the charismatic Morella House offers privacy and solace. It is set on 16 acres of natural bushland that is nice for a leisurely walk and there is a tennis court that guests can use.

The property is home to a friendly herd of goats, chickens and a lamb. It is nice to know that Morella House is pet-friendly and your pampered pooch is invited to stay as well.



The Martin Suite is priced at $180 per night from Sunday to Thursday and $210 per night on Friday and Saturday (one night stay is accepted). Morella House is offering a special discount for Weekend Notes readers. For the month of August 2013, receive a three night stay in the Martin Suite for the price of two nights.

The Iris Suite is suitable for families and couples and exudes comfort and country charm. Like the Martin Suite, it is fully self-contained with two bedrooms, kitchen, bathroom, private entrance and outdoor entertaining area. It is priced at $130 per night Sunday to Thursday and $140 per night Friday and Saturday (minimum two night stay).



Morella House is located approximately two hours north of Adelaide in Clare, the epicentre of the famed Clare Valley wine region where there is much to do, see and taste with over 40 cellar doors.
