The best scones on the coast
The sign promises the best scones on the coast at the Moreland cottage cafe in New South Wales. Upon arrival,l it is like being greeted at a little country cottage as great care has been taken to decorate this quaint little cafe.

You can sit indoors or out on the terrace and on fine days, you can enjoy the beautiful garden with the chickens running around. The signposts are funny but really interesting to work out how far everything is away from you.

Located about 300 m off the Pacific Highway, it is a very easy stop on route from Sydney to Coffs Harbour. We discovered this little gem as the people we were staying with in Coffs Harbour sent us a message saying "you must stop here for afternoon tea before you arrive and you definitely must try the scones!".

I like to consider myself a bit of a connoisseur of scones and so I wasn't especially excited about trying them. Let's see if they can change my mind.

On arrival, we opted for the more savoury options of the bruschetta (which was absolutely delicious), along with a great cup of tea and soy chai latte. The owners advised us we really must try their popcorn caramel cheesecake, so sharing one between two (so that we could fit in a scone as well) - we were incredibly glad we did!

The cheesecake was deliciously smooth and creamy, with a lovely caramel popcorn topping.

Taking a bite of the scone we were sharing, we fell into raptures as they really are the best scones I've had in a long time! Warm, soft, light, airy and full of flavour - you really must stop here and try these scones.

Served with dollops of fresh cream and homemade jam, certainly a delicious treat. A single scone was huge, large enough for both of us to share with our other treats and at only $4 50 (including the jam and cream), it was incredibly good value.

We are thinking of taking this way home, just so we can have some more treats on the way back to Sydney.

Your Comment
It definitely does look appetising Lesley. That popcorn caramel cheesecake appears rather exotic.
