Moonta and Moonta Mines, close neighbours, tied in history, enjoy a modern-day rivalry for the best Olde Towne Sweets Shoppe.

Inhabiting the former post office building in Moonta Mines, the National Trust listed Moonta Mines Sweet Shop sells sweets the old way, with counters and shelves lined to capacity with sweets, including favourites from the past that many may not have expected to see again. As a customer, you ask for your selection and the smiling sweets shop attendant hands them to you.





Likewise, in Moonta's main street, George Street, Moonta Chocolates Sweets and Treats has counters and shelves packed to capacity with sweets, including treats from the past, and locally made gourmet chocolates with flavours such as ginger and chilli among other delights.





Moonta Chocolates Sweets and Treats in George Street is the larger of the two, and you make many of your selections yourself before you approach the counter. Behind glass, though, some special temptations await that you will need the friendly sweets shop attendant to retrieve for you. Try the hand-made gourmet chocolates, fudges and pralines.
